National Daiquiri Day is celebrated every year, on July 19. On this day people fill their glasses with this rum-based cocktail. Daiquiri was likely invented by Cuban miners. In 1898, during the Spanish-American War, an engineer named Jennings Cox supervised a mine in a village named Daiquiri. Cox and his colleagues would gather at the local bar after work. Once, into a glass of ice, Cox mixed Bacardi, lime, and sugar. The drink, named after the Daiquiri mines became a popular staple in Havana.
